I have worked as an actor in Toronto. If you know what it means to be an actor
in Toronto right now, then you know it means having several part time jobs. I
have been emplyed over the years in many part time jobs - The Good, The Bad and
The........not so pretty!
The Good: Day camp counsellor, Summer Camp
Counsellor, General Store clerk (I got free pop and chips as bonuses), Retail
Store clerk (I got to dress up in fancy ties and dress shirts), Drama
instructor, Usher, Ticket Phone Room operator, Educational assistant
(supply).
The Bad: Telemarketer, Market Research guy, Candy Store
clerk (I know it sounds like a good job but...)
The Not So Pretty: Group Home worker, Singing Telegram deliverer, Candy Store Clerk (It was both
bad & not so prettty!)
I have worked in Toronto at The Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre. It is a
great place to work due to my co workers, my bosses and the spirits that dwell
in the building. It was built and opened in 1913/1914 so you can imagine there
are a few spirits hanging around. I have heard them call my name. Come to the
theatre for a tour or a show.
Height: Not As Tall As Some
Weight: Not as heavy as I was
Eyes: Two of them
Hair: On the top of my head
Age: Older then my underwear
Birthday: The same
every year
Location: Well, I keep moving around
My first post secondary experience was at Sir Sanford Fleming College to obtain
a diploma as an Educational Assistant; something which I am only now just using.
After college came Trent University where I earned a degree in Native Studies
and really started to understand what it meant to be Native. Recently, I earned
a certificate as a Community Health Worker. This means I am a youth worker or
outreach worker, etc. So, I am an acting, singing and sometimes dancing
Educational Assistant with a degree in Native Studies who would like to save the
world. No problems figuring out my life's direction.
Who Am I, Anyway?
The answer to that is simple. I am the person I am. I am my past, present and the me
yet to come. Let's start with my past. I was born with Cerebral Palsy. My guides
and protectors were working on that day though. I was only born with a mild
condition. Regardless of being born "differently abled", I had an amazing
childhood. I grew up in a small town raised running in and out of neighbour's
homes on hot summer days - picture Mayberry then shrink the town size and you
have my hometown of Greenbank. Baseball games, summer picnics, tobogganing down
the town hill were all a part of my mixture. Those of you who know me, can
figure out where Johnny Lizard came from. Those of you who do not get the
reference, just ask me.
I grew up on stage. I was cast in the school
play when I was in Grade 5. From the first moment I heard the applause, I was
hooked. I have been a Prince, a Pirate, and a lot in between. I was the biggest
Munchkin you have ever seen - "As Coroner, I Must Aver....". Acting has become
so much more then a hobby for me. It is a passion and a sustaining life force.
Whenever I need a bit of a re charge I try to get involved in a musical. No
where else can you be walking down the street and suddenly burst into song. OK,
you can do it in Toronto and New York but that's it other than on stage. I will
always be involved on some level in acting.
My Academic career is
pretty average. It is all past, present and future though. I am always looking
for something to study or train with. Most recently, I completed a course to be
certified as a massage practitioner. I believe the Creator above is leading me
along a path leading to Healer. Massage or any theraputic touch can be such a
powerful form of healing and I am honoured to be involved in it, even if it is
just a little.

My father was born the Mohawk reserve about two hours east of Toronto, Ontario.
It is called Tyendinaga Mohawk territory. It is a beautiful spot right on The
Bay Of Quinte. Although I was not raised on the territory, I am very proud of my
Mohawk heritage. I was given a spirit name but I will not put it here for all to
see. It is a very personal name and if you are interested in knowing it, you
will have to ask me. Being Mohawk means I am part of the Iroquois Confederacy.
The Six Nations of the Confederacy are as follows: Mohawk, Seneca, Oneida,
Onondaga, Cayuga and Tuscarora. I am constantly learning and growing as I walk
along the path the breathgiver has laid out for me. I do not have a clan but I
do feel strongly connected to Wolf. I feel Wolf is my protector, guide and
companion. I will stop there as I can not think of anything else to add right
now but I will add things as they come to me to add. Let your soul dance
everyday. Skennen.
